Truth be told, I haven’t been praying for the man I will one day call my husband on a consistent basis. Many times over the past years, the thought has longingly grazed my mind especially when I hear of parents who have prayed for their child’s spouse since childhood or the wife who prayed for her husband before they met.
On multiple occasions I have determined to make it part of my routine, but too often I lacked the motivation to go the distance with those prayers. Perhaps, it was because those prayers were more my way of pleading with God to make it happen.
But something interesting happened last week when the desire to pray for marriage stirred in me once again. I threw my hands up in the air to God because I honestly didn’t know what to pray. Sure, there are countless scriptures about marriage, desires, hope and faith that I could research.
BUT, I wanted a God inspired scripture, one that I would be certain He had spoken to my heart for this specific situation. I was driving down the winding road to work, pleading my cause of desiring to speak only His word for this situation, when a scripture came to mind, that in my opinion, appeared to have nothing to do with a husband.
“I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19
Well, tonight I had planned to write down the words I feel God has spoken to me over the years about marriage. I pulled out an old notebook from two years ago and noticed a page labeled “But, what has God said…” In my big cursive writing is this very scripture regarding what God spoke to me about marriage then.
Thank You Lord that You are the same yesterday, today and forever. In the midst of delayed desires, in our forgetful impatience, we might forget the encouragement God has already spoken to our hearts. But He doesn’t forget.
Today, I encourage you to grab a pen and notebook: pray then listen to hear what God would speak to your heart about your own situation concerning marriage. Perhaps, you will be reminded of something He has already said…use the scriptures or words that light upon your mind to create a declaration that you can speak daily and thank God for until it comes to fruition.
